Basic pension estimate guide: the line and the steps

The formulas and figures this page uses, in the order of the statute. All figures are for 2026.

Who can receive it

The basic pension goes to people 65 or older whose assessed income is at or under the line. Assessed income is income plus the monthly income converted from assets.

The 2026 line is 247 (x 10,000 won) a month for one person and 395.2 for a couple, which is 160 percent of the single line.

People on civil servant or military pensions, and their spouses, are excluded. One checkbox here shows that case.

How income is counted

Wages first lose 116 (x 10,000 won) a month. A further 30 percent of the rest is deducted and what remains counts as income.

Business income, interest and private pension count as received. The National Pension is added too.

Wages of 2,000,000 won leave 840,000 won, minus 30 percent gives 588,000 won of assessed wage income.

How assets become income

Homes, land and deposits lose a basic allowance by area: 13500 for large cities, 8500 for mid-size cities and 7250 for rural areas (x 10,000 won).

Savings, insurance and stocks lose 2000. Add both, subtract debt, multiply what is left by 4 percent a year and divide by 12.

A 100,000,000 won home in a mid-size city leaves 15,000,000 won. Four percent a year over 12 months is 50,000 won a month.

What this page calculates

At or under 90 percent of the line it says likely eligible, up to 110 percent it says near the line, and above that it says over the limit.

The amount starts at the base of 35 (x 10,000 won) a month. Couples receiving together lose 20 percent each, and near the line the amount is limited to the room left under it.

For National Pension recipients it shows a range inside the legal bounds. The exact figure needs contribution history, so the page does not decide it.

Everything is calculated in the browser. Nothing is stored or sent to a server.

When the amount shrinks

A couple who both receive it each lose 20 percent. Being near the line also reduces part of it.

National Pension income can lower it. Up to 1.5 times the base amount there is no cut, and above that the formula in the decree applies.

The law keeps at least 10 percent of the base amount, and this page does not go below that.

How to confirm

This is a trial estimate. Cars and memberships are left out, and the real assessment counts them.

Confirm with the official Bokjiro simulator, the National Pension Service or your local office. They also explain how to apply.

The line changes every January 1. When next year's line is announced, the figures and checked date here are updated.

When you try this for your parents, enter each person's income and assets separately. The line and the cut differ by whether both spouses receive it.
